Fresh Air: Wes Anderson speaks with Terry Gross
MOONRISE KINGDOM's Wes Anderson joined Terry Gross, the famed host of NPR's Fresh Air, to talk about his new movie and about making movies in general. (You can hear the interview here.) Gross starts with talking about how Benjamin Britten's opera Noye's Fludde (recreated in the film) sparked Anderson's imagination in making MOONRISE KINGDOM, and goes on to cover a number of fascinating topics. Great piece. At one point, he explains the development of his film aesthetic:
I have a way of filming things and staging them and designing sets....There were times when I thought I should change my approach, but in fact, this is what I like to do. It's sort of like my handwriting as a movie director. And somewhere along the way, I think I've made the decision: I'm going to write in my own handwriting. That's just sort of my way.
